I think that having a basketball hoop in your yard is a great way to encourage exercise, enjoy the outdoors, bond with family and friends as well as create great memories. I don’t know why but I’ve always found that shooting a few hoops brings people together! I would choose The Beast. I like a moble hoop (as it can be used in the driveway but easily moved to accommodate for parking cars). Finding the best basketball hoop for your player is about finding the right hoop for the money and your hoopsters interest. If your hoopster will be practicing daily and trying to improve on shooting, then by all means look at the higher end goals. I remember when I was younger, my step-dad bought an old cheap backboard for us to play basketball on. It was hung up on a tree with some chains and was a little taller than the regulation 10ft. It wasn’t the best goal out there but it is what I used to get better at the sport I loved. Through the years we’ve gone through about 4 or 5 different hoops, everyone of them being better than the last. I absolutely love The Beast portable hoop. The 60 inch glass backboard is also great for practicing all different types of spins on the ball for layups. When my boys were younger, I briefly looked into a basketball hoop for our back garden. Having a lot of space it would have worked reasonably well but there were so many to choose from !
I love the fact that you have listed all the ones available and who they are most suitable for. I only ever looked at the ones that attached to the wall and this wasn’t the best option with the design of the back of our house.
The freestanding ones at least are more accessible and can be placed anywhere so I assume they are heavy enough to stand upright or do they get fixed to the floor ?

Mobile – these are great if you plan to move your goal around from time to time. Ground-fixed – these are great if you have an open area just for a basketball hoop. They are permanently fixed to the ground using cement and/or anchor screws. Either way, you can’t go wrong! It’s just a question of where you plan to keep your hoop.

Hi Ivan, I’m a basketball lunatic like you and yeah I really liked your post. I’ve never much looked up on basketball hoops. When I look for something relating to basketball on the internet its usually just balls, skills and shoes but today I saw something interesting. I saw a similar hoop to the one I got as a birthday present from my pops, the Goalsetter though mine is the GS72 Wall-mount. At the backside of our house there is a half court and for a while I had been using a lowkey type of hoop and it doesn’t have a name so it was now totally used up and basketball was turning out to be boring so when I got the Goalsetter, I really got myself in the mood again. If I am to recommend someone to buy a hoop then it will definitely be that one.

There are so many awesome basketball hoops to choose from here, that one is spoilt for choice. When our boys were growing up and playing a lot of basketball, we had a hoop that we had attached to an outside wall.
But they often felt that the wall mounted hoop was fine if it was just the two of them playing and practising shooting. But when they had friends over, they would have preferred to have a portable or ground pole, as they said it would give them more scope.
